Krakow, Poland

Way back in 2012 when I went interrailling through Europe for a month with some friends we managed to pack in as many cities and countries as possible in the month that we were away, sadly we had to miss out Krakow as it was too far off our route. I knew that I would go and visit the city one day in the future and as an increasing number of my friends went this summer and autumn I was dying to experience it myself! On a fairly average evening in November I was browsing the internet and ended up searching flights to numerous cities when I came across the cheapest flights I had ever seen to Krakow and booked them immediately! After just over a month of waiting the time finally arrived to go and me and my boyfriend ventured to Krakow last week.
We spent two days there and it was just what we needed after the stress of Christmas and gloom of January. When we landed it was so cold and snowy but once we had acclimatised the snow just made the whole trip so much more wonderful. The city itself is amazingly beautiful and as it wasn't packed with tourists it really felt like we were lived there!

We spent one evening exploring the Jewish district, Kazimierz, and looking at the gothic churches, the river vistula and the ghetto square memorial. We went to Plac Nowy and tried the famous zapiekanki which was massive (almost as long as my arm!), but delicious! Afterwards we did a mini bar crawl and tried some flavoured Polish vodka, cocktails and beer in some funky bars before heading to a traditional restaurant for pierogies, which are stuffed polish dumplings. The ones we tried were incredible but extremely filling!

On the second day we had an early rise to catch a bus to Auschwitz. The place itself was really interesting but also incredibly sad. As there wasn't many visitors on the day we went it meant we could walk around the camp at our own pace and take it all in on our own. It's really hard to fully comprehend what happened there and the suffering so many people went through but I think that it is definitely worth a visit!
In the evening we went to look around the old town and the market square which was so beautiful in the dark with the Christmas lights and snow shining on it! We then headed back towards the Jewish district to an organic vegan restaurant to have tea. The place was really cool and the food was amazing and so so cheap! The whole of Krakow was extremely cheap so we ate like royalty on both days!

We even tried bubble tea which was interesting at first but we came to enjoy it!

I was really sad when we had to go home but I know that I will definitely be back in the future!
